합충 · Clash & Combine

Bazi Clash and Combination Checker

The eight characters of a chart do not sit quietly side by side — some pairs attract, some pull apart. Korean readers call this 합충형해 (hap-chung-hyeong-hae): combinations, clashes, punishments and harms. Enter your birth details to see every classic link inside your chart and with the 2026 and 2027 years.

What are combinations and clashes in Bazi?

They are fixed relations between the twelve earthly branches (and, more simply, the ten heavenly stems). Combinations (합, hap) pull two or three characters together, often toward a shared element. Clashes (충, chung) set opposite animals against each other. Punishments, harms and the Korean wonjin pairs are milder kinds of friction. Readers use them to describe how the parts of a life — family, work, partner, later years — pull on each other.

Which branches combine and clash?

Find your animal on the left and read across. One pair can carry more than one relation: the Rat and Goat, for example, are both a harm and a wonjin pair.

What does each relation mean?

Six harmony 육합 六合
Six partner pairs: Rat–Ox, Tiger–Pig, Rabbit–Dog, Dragon–Rooster, Snake–Monkey, Horse–Goat. Read as ease and cooperation.
Three harmony 삼합 三合
Four groups of three that share an element: Monkey–Rat–Dragon (Water), Tiger–Horse–Dog (Fire), Snake–Rooster–Ox (Metal), Pig–Rabbit–Goat (Wood). Two of a group that include its middle animal (Rat, Horse, Rooster or Rabbit) form a half combination. The two outer animals alone — say Pig and Goat — belong to the same group, and folk zodiac counts them as allies, but chart readers don’t count them as a combination, so this checker doesn’t list them.
Seasonal combination 방합 方合
The three animals of one season together — Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon for spring Wood; Snake, Horse, Goat for summer Fire; Monkey, Rooster, Dog for autumn Metal; Pig, Rat, Ox for winter Water.
Clash 충 沖
Opposite animals, six apart on the wheel: Rat–Horse, Ox–Goat, Tiger–Monkey, Rabbit–Rooster, Dragon–Dog, Snake–Pig. Read as movement and change more than misfortune.
Punishment 형 刑
Friction groups: Tiger–Snake–Monkey, Ox–Dog–Goat and Rat–Rabbit, plus self-punishment when a Dragon, Horse, Rooster or Pig appears twice.
Harm 해 害
Six quietly mismatched pairs: Rat–Goat, Ox–Horse, Tiger–Snake, Rabbit–Dragon, Monkey–Pig, Rooster–Dog.
Wonjin 원진 怨嗔
A Korean favorite, the “resentment pairs”: Rat–Goat, Ox–Horse, Tiger–Rooster, Rabbit–Monkey, Dragon–Pig, Snake–Dog. Traditionally checked in couples’ compatibility.
Stem combination and clash 천간합·충
Stems five apart attract (Jia–Ji, Yi–Geng, Bing–Xin, Ding–Ren, Wu–Gui); Jia–Geng, Yi–Xin, Bing–Ren and Ding–Gui clash.

What does a clash on the spouse palace mean?

Your day branch is the spouse palace, the seat of your closest partnership. When another branch — or a year — clashes with it, readers talk about movement in private life: a move, a new routine, a relationship finding a new shape. A combination with it is read as warmth and closeness. Neither is a prediction about any particular person.

Is a clash in my Bazi chart bad?

Not by itself. A clash is read as energy and change; plenty of active, successful people have several. Readers look at which pillars clash and what the rest of the chart needs before calling it helpful or hard. Treat it as a theme to notice, not a warning.

What is the difference between six harmony and three harmony?

Six harmony joins two specific animals, like the Rat and Ox, and is read as a close one-to-one bond. Three harmony joins three animals that share an element, like the Pig, Rabbit and Goat for Wood, and is read as a team or a shared direction. The full set of three is strongest; two of them make a half combination.

Why do some sites show different punishments?

Classical lists agree on the main groups — Tiger–Snake–Monkey, Ox–Dog–Goat and Rat–Rabbit — but differ on smaller details such as whether every pair inside a group counts. We list each pair inside the two three-animal groups, plus Rat–Rabbit and the four self-punishing animals.

Do links with the current year matter?

Readers use them to describe the theme a year brings to your chart. A year that clashes with your day branch is often read as a year of movement at home; one that combines with it as a warm, settled year. See the 2027 forecast for your zodiac animal.
