Saju Compatibility Calculator
In Korea, couples have long compared their saju before marriage — a custom called 궁합 (gunghap). Enter two birth dates to see how your Day Masters, spouse palaces and zodiac animals meet.
How does Saju compatibility work?
A Korean compatibility reading (궁합, gunghap) lays two Four Pillars charts side by side. This calculator looks at the four comparisons most readers start with:
- Day Masters — the stems of your day pillars, the “self” of each chart. Do they share an element, feed each other, keep each other in check, or form one of the five classic combinations (천간합)?
- Spouse palace — the branch under each Day Master (일지, ilji), traditionally read for close partnership and home life. Harmonies, clashes and the Korean “wonjin” pair show up here.
- Zodiac animals — the year branches, the folk 띠 궁합 (tti gunghap) many Korean families still mention.
- Elements — whether one person brings an element the other’s chart lacks.
A full reading also weighs the month and hour pillars, the strength of each Day Master and the luck cycles you are both in. We keep this tool to birth dates so anyone can use it, even without a birth time.
Which Day Masters are a good match?
There is no single “best” pair. The five stem combinations — 甲 Jia with 己 Ji, 乙 Yi with 庚 Geng, 丙 Bing with 辛 Xin, 丁 Ding with 壬 Ren, and 戊 Wu with 癸 Gui — are traditionally read as natural attraction. Producing relations (Water feeding Wood, for example) are read as supportive, and controlling relations as challenging but often growth-oriented. See each Day Master profile for how it relates to the other nine.
What is wonjin (원진) in Korean compatibility?
Wonjin (원진, 怨嗔, roughly “resentment”) is a set of six branch pairs — Rat–Goat, Ox–Horse, Tiger–Rooster, Rabbit–Monkey, Dragon–Pig and Snake–Dog. Korean folk compatibility treats them as pairs prone to small grudges and misunderstandings. Most modern readers take it lightly: a nudge toward patience and clear communication, not a reason to avoid anyone.
Can I check Saju compatibility without a birth time?
Yes. This calculator uses birth dates only, which give the year, month and day pillars — including both Day Masters and spouse palaces. A birth time would add the hour pillar, and births between about 23:00 and 01:00 can have a different day pillar, so check those with the full calculator.
Is Saju compatibility the same as Chinese zodiac compatibility?
Zodiac-animal matching is one small part of it. Saju compatibility looks first at the Day Masters and the spouse palace, which come from the day of birth, so two people with “clashing” animals can still have harmonious day pillars, and the reverse.
Does a clash or wonjin mean a relationship will fail?
No. In Saju a clash describes movement and difference, and wonjin describes a tendency toward misunderstandings. Readers use them to suggest what to pay attention to. No birth chart decides a relationship — the people in it do.
What is the spouse palace in Saju?
The spouse palace (배우자궁) is the Earthly Branch of your day pillar, sitting directly under your Day Master. Traditionally it is read for your closest partnership and home life, which is why compatibility readings compare the two day branches.
