Today’s Saju

Every day has its own pillar — 일진 (iljin) in Korean. Here is today’s, the week ahead, and what today means for your Day Master.

Today’s pillar appears here when the page loads (it needs JavaScript, because “today” depends on your time zone).

What does today mean for my Day Master?

Pick your Day Master. Not sure which it is? Find it from your birth date.

What is a day pillar?

The Saju calendar names every day with one of sixty stem-and-branch pairs, in an unbroken cycle that has run for thousands of years. Korean almanacs print it next to the date as the day’s 일진. The stem is the day’s outward energy and the branch its ground; the month and year pillars change at the solar terms.

How is a daily Saju theme read?

A reader compares today’s stem with your Day Master — the same Ten Gods logic used for a birth chart. A day whose stem feeds your element is a “Resource” day, one that your element produces is an “Expression” day, and so on. It is a lens for reflection, not a forecast, and it is the same for everyone who shares your Day Master — that is why we keep it to a single, gentle theme.

Why does the day pillar change at different times around the world?

The day pillar follows the local date. We use the date in your own time zone, so someone in Seoul may already be on tomorrow’s pillar while you are still on today’s. In the most common rule the day changes at the start of the Rat hour (23:00 local solar time); some readers keep the day until midnight, and so do we on this page.

What is today’s day pillar?

It is shown at the top of this page, calculated for the date in your time zone. Each day moves one step through the 60-pair cycle — the stem advances by one and the branch by one.

What is iljin (일진) in Korean?

일진 (日辰) is the day’s stem-and-branch pair. In everyday Korean, 일진이 좋다 (“the day’s iljin is good”) simply means “it’s a lucky day”, and 일진이 사납다 means a rough one.

Is the daily theme a horoscope?

It is a simple traditional reading: the Ten God of today’s stem for your Day Master. Everyone with the same Day Master sees the same theme. Use it as a prompt for reflection — it is for entertainment and self-reflection only.
